Sweet or Savory? This week’s Farm to Table special features honey and blueberries from Blue Heron Farm located in Round Hill, VA.
Jennifer Puffenberger, farmer and owner at Blue Heron Farm, grew up in New England, surrounded by a family who truly valued growing and harvesting their own food as well as respecting the environment. From the start, she was taught to focus on the importance of leaving a small carbon footprint. Jen dreamt of opening up her own farm and in 1995, her dream came true!
Blue Heron Farm was established in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Loudoun County. Although Loudoun is a new location for Jen, the same old philosophy is still rooted in the soil.
“Our farm is run like a full circle” says Jen “from field and pasture to the kitchen table and back again, everyone shares and little is wasted. We cherish our harvest and the way of life that has been passed on to us from our parents and grandparents.”
Blue Heron Farm raises Clun Forest Sheep, Nigerian Dwarf Goats, honeybees, poultry, and produce. Featured this week are Jen’s incredibly flavorful blueberries and honey!
Join us this Friday for a sweet and savory grilled cheese made with creamy brie, balsamic-blueberry reduction, drizzled with Blue Heron Farm honey!
